N7 at Wallwork Birmingham is the Group's 10 gas nitride furnace.

Wallwork Heat Treatment has added a tenth gas nitride furnace. Demand is up and so is the need for gas nitriding larger loads. A £100,000 investment, the new unit is located at the company’s Birmingham heat treatment site. It is now running production loads.

“From across aerospace, automotive, energy, tooling and medical we are experiencing growing demand. Especially for gas nitride hardening services with the capacity to gas nitride finish larger components. Our largest chamber is 1.4 metres in diameter by 1.5 metres deep. It will take parts weighing up to five tonnes,” explained group director Simeon Collins.

These industries rely on the gas nitriding process to surface-harden components to improve wear resistance and fatigue strength. This heat-treatment method creates a hardened outer layer that withstands extreme conditions. As a relatively low temperature heat treatment it also minimises any component distortion.

Speedy order pick up

For those asking search engines for ‘gas nitriding near me’, they will be pleased to know that Wallwork operate a 24/7 service from sites in Cambridge, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle. A dedicated fleet of over 50 commercial vehicles provides speedy pick-up and delivery and ensures fast gas nitriding process order turnaround.

As with all heat treatments from Wallwork, gas nitriding hardness order pick-ups can be efficiently booked via their online customer portal. Downloading the Wallwork App from the Apple and Android stores allows easy booking via mobile devices. The portal/App is also a gateway to much more information about orders as they progress through processing to delivery.

For component manufacturers looking to extend the life and performance of metal parts, gas nitriding case depth hardening is an effective and efficient process. With the tenth unit, selecting Wallwork as process partner ensures capacity availability, technical expertise, fast order turnaround and quality.
